Germana Gómez – Alexander Technique Teacher
I continue to learn about the Alexander Technique every day; its depth never ceases to amaze me. When I had my first individual sessions, I never imagined I would end up teaching it. At that time, Leeds College of Music offered one-to-one sessions to all music students, and I happened to be there on a year-long placement.
I later completed the three-year Alexander Technique training primarily for myself, for my own personal development, rather than with the intention of becoming a teacher. However, I soon felt a passion for sharing with others what the technique was allowing me to see and understand.
I suffered from back pain for many years and eventually gave up playing the piano after a long period of frustration. I know what it means for a musician to play in pain, with excessive tension, feeling blocked and not knowing what is happening. With that tension, I couldn’t progress, or if I did, it was with immense effort. I used to think that playing with tension was just part of who I was and that it couldn’t be changed. I consulted various piano teachers and tried many therapies over the following years. It was a long search during which I found myself drifting further and further away from music.
However, today I feel grateful to have walked that path because what awaited me went much further than I could have imagined. Beyond resolving that tension when playing, I was able to bring that personal development into my daily life. I discovered that we can regulate our muscle tone at any moment—to stop, breathe, and feel. I am still training and discovering within myself everything that the Alexander Technique has to offer. It never stops surprising me with what it brings to me and to the people who come here.
My work is my passion
Today, I continue to learn and find enjoyment in every lesson I teach. The Technique is a constant reminder that we can stop, breathe, and connect.
Training and career path
- Alexander Technique Teacher certified by the Alexander Technique Center of Amsterdam (ATCA) and NeVLAT (the Dutch Alexander Technique Teachers' Association). Member of APTAE (the Spanish Alexander Technique Teachers' Association).
- My interest in bringing the Alexander Technique to the corporate world led me to train in Occupational Health and Safety (OHS). I hold a Higher Technical Qualification in Occupational Risk Prevention, specialising in Ergonomics and Applied Psychosociology (UOC).
- As part of my personal development journey, I completed three years of training in Nonviolent Communication (NVC) and studied theatrical improvisation for three years at the Escuela de Impro de Málaga.
- Throughout my musical education, I obtained a Professional Degree in Piano (Conservatorio Profesional de Música de Jaén) and a Bachelor’s Degree in Musicology (ESMUC).
- For over ten years, I have been providing one-to-one sessions for people from all walks of life: doctors, Pilates instructors, university lecturers, musicians, actors, photographers, poets, managers... Each person brings their own unique history, their body, and their way of being in the world. Together, we explore new ways of inhabiting it.
All of these various forms of training have nourished my way of teaching. For me, there is a continuous thread linking them—an experience that opened the door to the next, like a path unfolding step by step that I am still travelling today.
I have had the privilege of teaching at the Higher Conservatories of Music in Málaga, Granada, and Jaén, specialising in Postural Education, as well as conducting workshops in corporate settings and spaces dedicated to wellbeing.
There is one word that those who attend my sessions repeat frequently: tranquillity. They leave with a sense of calm and inner space, as if they have recovered something valuable that was already there, waiting to be heard.
This work deeply fulfils me. It allows me to contribute to the wellbeing of others while also looking after my own; every day, it invites me to keep learning, researching, and discovering new ways of understanding ourselves. Because no two processes are ever the same, and the beauty of our encounter lies in that very uniqueness.

She is bilingual, which made instructions in English easy to follow. I learned and practiced the technique for most of two years, having sessions once a week. I had previously had other types of body work, but this practice is more about not doing than doing. The regular practice and reminders gradually increased my proprioceptive awareness. This has been very transformative for the way I carry myself, as well as how, as a musician, I play my instrument, the piano. I became more aware of micro tensions in my body and stopped using muscles that were not needed in performing an action. The practice improved respiration and created more flow in my movement and playing. It takes time to change habitual patterns of movement and weekly sessions were my regular times to check-in with Germana for observation, correction and reminders. I highly recommend her work because she is very enthusiastic about the efficacy of the Alexander Technique and is committed to teaching it. Germana embodies the technique. Her example makes it easier to integrate.
